The Siamese Algae Eater or SAE is a great alternative to Plecos in a medium to large aquarium. They originate from South-East Asia and will adapt to a wide range of conditions.  As the fish mature, they should be offered additional food like algae wafers and blanched vegetables as algae alone will not sustain them indefinitely and they're likely to turn their attention to plants if they are hungry. A tight fitting lid is a must with this species as they are accomplished jumpers.
